About The Back40 Farm

We raise Miniature Dachshunds on a working farm in the US. One breed. One focus.

Why Miniature Dachshunds

We didn't back into this breed. We chose it. Miniature Dachshunds are loyal, curious, and stubborn in the best possible way they fit apartments and farmhouses equally well, and they bond hard to their families.

The flip side is IVDD. Intervertebral disc disease is a real risk in the breed, and we talk about it openly. We select breeding pairs with sound spinal conformation, breed within recommended weight ranges, and send every puppy home with written guidance on protecting their back (ramps over stairs, no jumping from height, keeping a healthy weight). We're not going to pretend the risk doesn't exist we'd rather you go in prepared.

What farm-raised means here

Every litter is whelped and raised in our home, not a kennel. Puppies are handled daily from birth weighed, touched, talked to. By the time they leave us at 8 weeks they're used to people, to noise, to being picked up. We have found that the first 8 weeks matter more than almost anything else for temperament.

How we sell

Prices are on the site. Availability is on the site. A $300 hold deposit secures your puppy no phone call required. We reach out once the deposit is in to introduce ourselves and walk you through what happens next.

We currently produce 1–2 litters per year and are expanding to 3–5. When a litter isn't available, the inquiry form puts you at the top of the list for the next one.

AKC registration

Our sires and dams are AKC-registered. Every litter is AKC-registerable you receive the paperwork at pickup.

Health guarantee

Every puppy leaves with a 1-year genetic health guarantee. If a genetic condition surfaces in the first year, we work with you directly no fine print, no runaround.
